The place chosen for the 8th ICHSSE is a pleasant beach, well known both in Brazil and abroad. Maresias beach has about 3 miles of fine white sand and clear water. It is not adequate for swimming, because of the strong waves. It is frequented mostly by surfers from several countries, who enjoy this beach.
Maresias is located between the Atlantic Ocean and the mountains of Serra do Mar, where the dominant vegetation is the Atlantic Forest, an area with a high biodiversity level. Nowadays, only 7% of the original forest is preserved. Projects such as SOS Mata Atlântica work to help the preservation of the fauna and flora of the region. Many guided natural trails can be accessed to appreciate the animals and plants of this rich environment. It is also possible to make trips to nearby places by boat.
One of the several opportunities is to visit the Tuim Ecological Park: http://www.tuimparque.com.br/en/home.html
The Local Organizers of the 8th ICHSSE will soon provide adittional information about suitable tourist activities and reliable tourism agents who may help participants to plan their leisure activities before or after the Conference.
