Paper Submission

The deadline for submission of papers for presentation at the 1st Latin American Conference of the International History, Philosophy, and Science Teaching Group (IHPST-LA) is March 20th, 2010.
To submit a paper for oral presentation or poster, you should send us an email to the conference address () attaching a file (in Word format .doc or .rtf) containing the format of intended presentation (oral or poster), the full title of your work, your full name, institutional affiliation, academic status (e.g., PhD student, Full Professor, etc.), email address, and an abstract with 300 to 500 words. It might be helpful if you add (besides the 300-500 words) a short bibliography used in your research. Use this file as a guideline for your abstract, please. We ask you to label the abstract file with the first author's name (for instance: Smith-John.doc), please.
The official languages of this Conference are English, Portuguese, and Spanish. Abstracts and papers may be presented in any of those languages.
Each participant should submit only one paper as first author. The first author is expected to participate in the Conference to present the paper.
Proposals will be submitted to peer-review. Notification of acceptance will be sent in April 2010.

Guidelines

Following the guidelines of the International History, Philosophy, and Science Teaching Group (IHPST), the 1st IHPST-LA will be devoted to the presentation and discussion of research papers on the use of history, philosophy and sociology of science in science teaching.
Proposals are welcome in all areas and periods of history, philosophy and sociology of science. Papers should directly address the relevance and use of historical, philosophical and sociological issues in science and mathematics teaching.
Papers on science teaching that have no relation to history, philosophy and/or sociology of science are not adequate for this conference. Papers on history, philosophy and/or sociology of science that have no relation to science teaching are also inadequate for this conference.
All papers submitted for oral presentation should match the standards of academic publications and should describe the results of a round off research. Work in progress (e.g.: the preliminary research for a dissertation or thesis) may be presented in poster format.
A selection of the papers presented during the 1st IHPST-LA will be published in book form, in 2011. After the conference, the authors will be invited to submit the final version of their papers for publication. The papers should not exceed 3,000 words. The deadline for submission of papers is October 31, 2010. The contributions, in Word format, should be sent to the Conference e-mail address, mail@hpsst-brazil2010.org.
The full papers will be submitted to peer-review. Acceptance for presentation at the Conference does not warrant acceptance for publication, of course.
