Nobody would say no to the prospect of having white teeth(in Danish the term is Hvide tænder). Not only would it boost yourself-confidence and give you a smile worthy of being featured in a toothpaste commercial, but having white teeth is also a sign of excellent oral health.
Over the years, the enamel of your teeth is subject to intrinsic and extrinsic discoloration as a result of the foods and drinks that you consume; smoking; ageing; poor oral hygiene(in Danish the term is Mundhygiejne); dental problems; and medical conditions. The good news is that there are plenty of things that you can do in order to restore your white teeth. You can use whitening toothpastes or mouthwashes or home teeth whitening kits. Or, you can visit your dentist and undergo teeth bleaching procedures.
The Risks & Dangers Involved in Getting a Teeth Whitening Procedure
You need to be aware, however, that just like any other cosmetic procedure, there are certain risks and dangers that you have to face when having your teeth bleached. Before deciding to undergo a bleaching procedure so that you can get white teeth, it is best to be aware of exactly what these risks are. Take a look at the following list: 1. Teeth bleaching procedures can lead to teeth sensitivity. Although there are some risks involved with the form of product that your dentist during the teeth whitening procedure, the complications associated with it usually have something to do with the side effects.
One primary example is that bleaching procedures may lead to extra sensitivity in your teeth. Don’t think that this is a small price to pay for having pearly white teeth, because there are some people who have very little tolerance to pain. Even the most minor discomfort may have a major effect to your enjoyment of life or the ease by which you can do your daily activities – so think about whether you would like to risk having extra sensitive teeth after bleaching.
2. Teeth whitening procedures may cause irritation to the gums and the soft tissues of your mouth. Another ill effect of getting a teeth whitening procedure is that it can lead to irritation in your gums or the soft tissues of your mouth. This is caused by the chemicals used in the bleaching process, or gum irritation due to the trays or other dental accessories used for whitening your teeth.
3. Teeth bleaching is a procedure that pregnant or lactating women should not go through. Although almost anybody over the age of 18 can get teeth bleaching procedures, it is not recommended for pregnant and lactating women – as it can cause complications to their health.
4. Teeth bleaching is not recommended if you have partial dentures, dental caps or crowns. If you don’t want to have uneven-colored teeth, you also should not go through a teeth bleaching procedure if you have veneers, partial dentures, caps or crowns. This is because the chemical used in the whitening procedure might not affect the material used in the denture, cap or crown – which is usually made from porcelain.
